We got back here to the campus and we were able to sleep for a while. Then Jeremi gave us a tour of the campus (I'll be taking pictures later today of the campus). Then we hung out and talked for a while. Jeremi and Rebecca are awesome. They have a little 5 month old baby named Caitlyn. And a very large horse I mean dog named Gus. Last night they had to take Caitlyn to go get some shots. They had me come with them so that I could get my first "public health" experience in Mexico City. Again-the driving was insane. Cars are coming at your from all different directions. It was amazing to just look around and see a completely different way of life. I guess we are technically living in the "slums". Its a very very poor area with alot of poverty. We drove to one of the best hospitals in the Mexico City and it was actually pretty clean. The doctor was really sweet. They were telling me that in the morning she works at a hospital in the south but she doesn't get paid enough there to get by so she travels up north (where we are) and works a second job. Which is crazy considering she is a doctor.
The Academy campus is beautiful and very safe. It's on 4 acres and has high walls around the whole thing and a security guard that is there 24/7. It is very hot here. I need to get going but in my next post (probably later tonight) I will tell you all what we are actually going to be doing here. BUT we are SAFE. So dont worry!!!
That sounds amazing already! You guys are going to have so much fun! And by the way good idea on the blog, I can't wait for more pics. Love you both!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha best day of my life that you will be living with a dog. Hope he is still alive by the end of the summer.
